Is Word Board like the tile-and-board word game I grew up with?
It plays the way you remember: seven letter tiles on a rack, words laid across a board and hooked onto what is already there, and squares that double or triple what you score. The board pattern is our own, and it is built for a phone — the whole thing fits on one screen and you tap a tile onto a square rather than reaching across a table.
Do we have to agree on whether a word counts?
No — that is the nicest part. Every word goes through the same dictionary of more than 150,000 words, so the board simply refuses anything that is not in it and nobody has to be the referee.
Can we all play at once, or only two of us?
Either. Play the computer on your own, pass one phone between two people, or set out a table everyone joins from their own phone — with a chat running beside the board the whole game.
Is it really free?
Yes. Every game, every table, the chat, all of it — free, with no ads and nothing to unlock.
Do I need an account?
No. Nobody signs up, nobody gives an email. You make a family board, share the link, and whoever taps it adds their name and they're in.
Do we have to download anything?
No. It all runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer. If you'd like it on your home screen there's a one-tap way to add it, but you never have to.
